Tell us what the drain is doing and we will tell you what it probably is, what it will take to fix, and what it should cost — before anyone gets in a van.

Emergency drainage callout operates 24 hours, 7 days, including public holidays.
The Auckland region — North Shore, West, Central, East and South Auckland.
We are a mobile service-area business: we come to the property. There is no public counter to visit. See all areas we cover.
Stop using every water fixture in the property, including the washing machine and dishwasher — each one adds to what has nowhere to go. Keep people and pets away from the water. Then call us on 09 555 6666. If wastewater is also surfacing in the street or in a neighbour’s property, the public main may be blocked. Watercare ask you to call them before you call a plumber in that situation — their 24/7 faults line is (09) 442 2222, option 1 — and they attend blockages on the public network at no charge to you.
The more detail here, the more accurate the estimate — and the more likely we turn up with the right gear the first time.
Before you call
You do not need to diagnose anything. But if you can answer these, we can usually narrow the cause down before we arrive — which means the right equipment on the first visit.
One basin behind a blockage is usually local to that fixture. Several fixtures at once — or the toilet and shower together — usually means the blockage is further down the shared line.
The gully trap is the grated dish outside, usually near the kitchen or bathroom wall. If wastewater is rising in it, the blockage is downstream of the house and the gully is doing its job — relieving the overflow outside instead of inside.
A first-time blockage and a drain that blocks every winter are different problems. Recurrence points to a cause in the pipe itself — roots, a crack, a dip, or a partial collapse.
New tenants, a bathroom renovation, a big storm, a tree removed or planted, or heavy rain after a dry spell all shift the odds towards a particular cause.
Auckland homes built before the 1960s often still have earthenware or concrete laterals with jointed sections — the classic entry point for tree roots. Post-1980 homes are usually uPVC with sealed joints.
For non-urgent work we normally offer an appointment within 1–2 working days. For an active overflow we aim to have someone to you the same day, and we run a 24/7 emergency callout across the Auckland region. Response time depends on where you are and how many jobs are already running.
Not always. If the drain access points and the gully trap are reachable without going through the house, we can usually work with a gate left unlocked and a phone call. For anything involving inside fixtures, or where we need a decision made on the spot, someone needs to be there.
We give you a price before any work starts, not after. Call and describe the symptoms and we will give you a realistic range over the phone; the firm price is confirmed on site once we can see the access and the drain.
If the blockage is on the private drain between your fixtures and the connection to the public network, it is the property owner's. If the public wastewater main itself is blocked, that is Watercare's and they attend at no cost to you. We can usually tell which it is from the symptoms, and we will tell you honestly if it is not our job.
Describe the symptoms and we will tell you whether it is a job for a drainlayer, for Watercare, or something you can sort out yourself in ten minutes. That advice is free either way.
