Central Auckland · 24/7 callout
Drain clearing, camera surveys and repairs across Mt Eden — and an honest answer about whether the blockage is even yours to pay for.
Blocked Drains Auckland provides drain unblocking, CCTV drain surveys, hydro-jetting, tree root removal and drain repair throughout Mt Eden, Central Auckland. Villas and bungalows from the 1900s to the 1930s, on the slopes of Maungawhau. Drainage here is typically glazed earthenware and concrete, jointed, largely original. Emergency callout operates 24 hours, 7 days, and we give you a price before work starts.
Mt Eden is classic older-Auckland drainage: pre-1930s housing on jointed earthenware, beneath one of the more established street canopies in the city. The volcanic topography adds something specific — laterals on the slopes of Maungawhau can run at steeper grades than usual, and while good fall generally helps a drain self-cleanse, changes of grade and the junctions between them are exactly where solids and roots collect.
Typical pipe: Glazed earthenware and concrete, jointed, largely original.
Local conditions
The default finding. A sound barrel with failed mortar joints, and fine root curtains hanging at several of them along the run.
Volcanic topography means laterals that change grade. Transitions and junctions are where material tends to settle out.
A century of villa renovation leaves mixed pipe materials, abandoned branches and the occasional stormwater line quietly plumbed into the wastewater drain.
Everything below is available across the Central Auckland area, from a single blocked gully through to a relined lateral.
Before you pay anyone
It is worth thirty seconds, because it decides who pays. Everything on your side of the point of supply — internal plumbing, the gully trap outside, and the private lateral out to the connection — is the property owner’s. The public wastewater main is Watercare’s, and they clear blockages on it at no cost to you.
If wastewater is surfacing in the street, or neighbouring Mt Eden properties have the same problem on the same day, ring Watercare on (09) 442 2222, option 1, before you call a plumber. If only your property is affected, it is almost certainly the private lateral — and that is us.
Mostly through topography rather than the rock itself. Laterals on the slopes can run at steeper and more variable grades, and it is the changes of grade — and the junctions at them — where material tends to settle. Excavation can also be more involved where basalt is close to the surface, which is worth knowing before a repair is quoted.
That seasonal rhythm is a strong signal of root intrusion at a moving joint. Root growth tracks moisture, and Auckland's clay shrinks through a dry summer then swells when the rain returns, opening gaps that had partly closed. A camera survey will usually find the entry point in one visit.

Non-urgent work is usually within 1–2 working days. For an active overflow we aim to attend the same day, and our emergency callout runs 24 hours, 7 days including public holidays. Response time depends on where you are and how many jobs are already running — we will give you an honest window.
You get a price before any work starts, not an invoice afterwards. Call and describe the symptoms and we will give you a realistic range over the phone; the firm price is confirmed on site once we can see the access and the drain. See our Auckland cost guide for the ranges.
Tell us what it is doing and we will tell you what it probably is, what it takes to fix, and what that should cost.
