Terms & Conditions

These terms apply when you ask us to quote for or carry out drainage work. They sit alongside your rights under New Zealand consumer law, which nothing here takes away.

Last updated: 19 August 2026

1. Who you are dealing with

These terms are between you (the person or organisation asking for the work) and Blocked Drains Auckland. Where your job is carried out by an independent licensed drainage contractor we have referred it to, that contractor's own terms may also apply and will be provided to you before work starts. Our Referral Marketing Disclosure explains this arrangement.

2. Estimates are not fixed quotes

Drains are underground and largely invisible until they are opened or camera-inspected. Any price we give you over the phone or by email before seeing the drain is an estimate based on what you have described.

A fixed quote is only given in writing, after inspection, and is valid for 30 days. Once you accept a fixed quote in writing, that is the price for the scope described in it.

3. Changes to the work

If we open up a drain and find something materially different from what was expected — a collapsed section, a pipe that is not where the plan says, asbestos-cement pipework, or a fault on a part of the system we were not asked to look at — we will stop, tell you what we have found, and give you a revised price before continuing. You are never charged for additional work you have not approved.

4. Access and site conditions

You need to give us safe access to the property and to the drainage points we need to reach, and to tell us about anything on site that could be a hazard: dogs, unfenced pools, unstable ground, live electrical work, or known asbestos. If we cannot safely access the drain on the agreed date, a callout charge may apply.

Where the property is tenanted, please make sure the tenant knows we are coming. Where you are not the owner, you confirm you have the owner's authority to order the work.

5. What we cannot promise

6. Payment

Unless we have agreed account terms in writing, payment is due on completion of the work. We accept EFTPOS, credit card, and bank transfer. For larger repair or relining jobs we may ask for a deposit, which will be set out in the written quote.

Overdue accounts may incur interest and reasonable recovery costs. We will always contact you before taking any recovery step.

7. Cancellations

Let us know as early as you can. There is no charge for cancelling more than two hours before a booked non-emergency appointment. Cancelling inside that window, or not being there when we arrive, may incur a callout charge covering the travel and the slot held for you.

8. Workmanship and warranty

Drainage repair and relining work carries a workmanship warranty, the length of which is stated in your written quote. The warranty covers our workmanship. It does not cover new blockages caused by what is put down the drain, damage from ground movement or third-party excavation, or the failure of a different section of pipe we did not work on.

Drain clearing is a maintenance service, not a repair, and is not warranted against recurrence — because the underlying cause may still be there. Where a CCTV inspection has identified a cause and you have chosen not to repair it, that will be noted on your invoice.

9. Your consumer rights

If you are a consumer, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 gives you guarantees that our services will be carried out with reasonable care and skill, be fit for purpose, and be provided within a reasonable time and at a reasonable price where none was agreed. The Fair Trading Act 1986 also applies. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes those rights.

Where you are acquiring our services for the purposes of a business, and it is fair and reasonable to do so, the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply, as permitted by section 43 of that Act.

10. Liability

Subject to clause 9, our liability for any claim arising from the work is limited to re-performing the work or refunding what you paid for it, whichever we choose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss such as loss of income or loss of rent. Nothing in this clause limits liability for death, personal injury, or anything else that cannot be limited by law.

We carry public liability insurance. Details are available on request.

11. Health and safety

We work to our obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015. Our team may decline to carry out work where they judge the site to be unsafe until the hazard is dealt with.

12. Licensing

Sanitary drainage work in New Zealand is restricted work that must be carried out or supervised by a person licensed by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board. You are entitled to ask to see the licence card of anyone doing restricted drainage work at your property, and to check it on the Board's public register.

13. Complaints

If something has gone wrong, please tell us. Our Complaints Policy sets out how we handle it and where you can escalate if you are not satisfied.

14. General

These terms are governed by New Zealand law and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction. If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. We may update these terms; the version that applies to your job is the one published when you accepted the work.
